Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies with commitment and behaviour-change strategies, to increase psychological flexibility.
Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being, and changing behaviour in line with your values. Through metaphor and experiential exercises clients will learn how to make healthy contact with thoughts, feelings, memories and physical sensations that have been feared and avoided.

ACT can be used to effectively treat stress, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), psychosis, chronic pain and substance misuse.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioural therapy for those who feel emotions very intensely. It combines strategies such as mindfulness, acceptance and emotion regulation, which can help clients understand and accept difficult feelings and learn skills to manage them. It is recognised as the gold standard psychological treatment for those with borderline personality disorder (BPD) (a disorder of mood leading to emotional instability and relationship issues) but is also effective in treating substance dependence, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders.

Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT)
Mentalization based therapy (MBT) brings together aspects of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural and systemic approaches to treat clients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). The main goals of MBT are better behavioural control, increased affect regulation, more intimate and gratifying relationships and the ability to pursue life goals. This can be achieved through increasing a client's capacity for mentalization in order to stabilise their sense of self and enhance stability in emotions and relationships.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. CBT aims to change client's thought patterns, conscious and unconscious beliefs, attitudes and behaviours in order to help overcome difficulties and achieve goals. CBT is effective in treating disorders such as anxiety, depression, panic disorders, phobias, substance misuse, insomnia and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) amongst other difficulties.
Supervision
I have extensive experience in supervising qualified psychologists and other mental health professionals who utilise a range of psychological models including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and integrative approaches. I am able to offer 1:1 and group supervision.
